Steak House Kaji, Hamamatsucho

Tokyo is a city with a deep history, so every neighborhood has at least one long-established favorite. This place is one of them.

The sign

It is a bit of a walk from Hamamatsucho Station and not easy to find. Lunch is not exactly cheap, yet plenty of people were coming in. It is hard for foreign travelers to get to, and the target seemed to be people living in Tokyo who care about taste and atmosphere.

The teppan

Japanese-style steak means teppanyaki. An elderly gentleman grilled it for us himself.

Inside

The atmosphere is antique and lovely. I think it would work well for business dinners too.

An aperitif comes out too.

It is a small place, but there is a refinement to the service.

Salad

Today’s beef

Beautiful condition. The price goes up in proportion to the grams, so eating until you are full is a bit of a stretch on the wallet, but it seems like a nice place to drop by now and then when you feel like treating yourself.

Grilled

steak house kaji

It is not a high-end famous restaurant, but it is pretty delicious.

White rice

steak house kaji

With teppan steak, rice just has to come alongside

Miso soup

Stir-fried bean sprouts

They make a simple side dish out of the leftover trimmings and bean sprouts.

Coffee to finish

Japan has quite a lot of places like this. In Korea, a business like this would probably still fail because of the prices, but someday a place with this concept is bound to appear. Come to think of it, the Korean TV version of Midnight Diner was pure fantasy..
