Yangpyeong Sinnae Seoul Haejangguk, Sinsa

There are two famous haejangguk places in Sinsa-dong. One is Yumyeongguk Yangpyeong Haejangguk, and the other is Yangpyeong Sinnae Seoul Haejangguk. The two are right next to each other, and I had always only gone to Yumyeongguk. Partly because Yumyeongguk is plenty good, and partly because Sinnae Seoul Haejangguk somehow felt like a knockoff.

But Yumyeongguk’s haejangguk is so intense that at some point it got hard for me to eat. I went without haejangguk for a while, then suddenly got curious about the place next door and gave it a try.

Side dishes

I think the side dishes are a bit better at Yumyeongguk.

Haejangguk

yangpyeong

It is definitely less intense than Yumyeongguk. I suspect a lot of people would find this taste underwhelming, but I enjoyed it.

Unseasoned broth available too

yangpyeong

Just the fact that this option exists is something to be grateful for.

On my next visit I ordered the naejangtang (offal soup).

yangpyeong

It comes out nicely, much like at Yumyeongguk.

The basic naejangtang set

Yumyeongguk has more spacious seating with a nice open feel, and the broth is punchier, so if I am only going occasionally I will probably end up at Yumyeongguk. But if I find myself going often, I think I would put this place first.
