The naengmyeon places I used to go to had raised their prices so much that I was feeling discouraged, when I heard that Jeongin Myeonok in Gwangmyeong was supposed to be good and went to check it out. Naengmyeon is a winter food, so you have to eat plenty of it before winter is over. It is inside Gwangmyeong Market, and maybe because Line 7 runs there, getting there was not that hard. It is closer to me now too, so I will probably be going often from now on.
The front entrance
It is quite a way from the station, but not hard to find. They seem to sell a pretty tempting-looking yukgaejang too, but ordering something other than naengmyeon at a naengmyeon place is not an easy thing to do. Now that I live closer, though, the occasion may well come up before long..
Myeonsu (noodle water)
The shop is small, but they do things properly, so you get myeonsu, the hot water the noodles were boiled in.
Side dishes
Simple, as befits a naengmyeon place.
Nokdujeon (mung bean pancake)
Eating only noodles felt a little dull so I ordered one, and out came a proper nokdujeon.
Naengmyeon
The portion of noodles is substantial, about what other places would serve as a large. The broth is excellent and the noodles are beyond reproach.
Bibim naengmyeon
This was the special discovery of the day. It is in a style similar to makguksu with plenty of broth, quite different from the usual bibim naengmyeon, but it was really delicious. You could call this place a bibim naengmyeon specialist.
I emptied the bowl in admiration, and looking at the bill made me happy all over again. I hope they keep things just like this for a long time to come.
