I went to Gangnam Station to see a movie – thanks to CGV throwing its weight around with distribution, Megabox was the only option – and since it was cutting close to showtime, I ordered a burger at the MOS Burger right in front of the theater. It is an everyday brand in Japan, but eating it for the first time in a while here in Korea, it was a lot better than I expected, so I went back a few days later. Partly because I ended up watching Interstellar twice, too. (As expected, the son was utterly useless and the daughter was the real deal.)

This is roughly what it feels like.

The interior is clean, and with all the green it does a good job of giving off a healthy vibe, which fits the MOS Burger image well. It was not packed, but there were still quite a few people.

Salad

They had a salad at a reasonable price. If you are thinking about eating healthy, the vegetables in the burger alone are never quite enough. Nice to see them paying attention to this kind of thing.

No grease, and loads of vegetables. The meat quality was good too.

MOS Burger

It was tastier than any MOS Burger I have had in Japan. In Japan the quality varies a lot from branch to branch, but in Korea this place is something like the flagship store, so I guess they manage it accordingly.

French fries and onion rings

Well, nothing special.

A burger craze has been going on for a few years now, and these days you can get a good burger just about anywhere in Seoul. What is a shame, though, is that burger trends seem to be heading in an ever more over-the-top direction. Piling grease and cheese on top of good-quality meat and stuffing your mouth full is the primal pleasure of eating a burger, but I am not American, and if you keep eating only burgers like that, you cannot help getting sick of them. Especially someone like me who eats out at good restaurants all the time gets tired of them fast.

In this situation, I cannot tell you how glad I am that a low-key burger like MOS Burger is doing business in Korea. Of course, if MOS Burger is your first burger of this kind, it might feel a bit bland, so go according to your own taste.

Personally, I think it would be fun if Kua ‘Aina’s avocado burger or pineapple burger came here, but who knows when we will see them in Korea.. Looking at current trends, though, I get the feeling they will show up before long.
