It had been a while since I last came out to Hongdae, and a lot has changed. Mecenatpolis has gone up, and the Hapjeong side feels a bit livelier now. There was so much ground to cover that while I was wandering around, I ducked into a few cafes that caught my eye along the way.

Seogyo-dong Eonnine

A bakery-cum-cafe in a quiet spot on the road from Hapjeong over to Mangwon. I had never heard of it (even a Google search turns up very little), but they sell some pretty high-level breads and desserts. The inside is spacious too, almost like a cooking studio. The prices and the taste are both decent, so if you live nearby it is worth dropping in.

French toast at Cafe Nthen

The road running from Hapjeong Station up to Hongdae’s Parking Lot Street is lined with countless cafes (of course there are plenty of cafes elsewhere in Hongdae too..). Anyway, this is one of the cafes holding down a spot there. The atmosphere is cozy and the French toast was good. The other places all seemed to put out their own distinctive menus too, but I am not that much of a cafe person, so I am not sure I will ever get around to checking them one by one. Anyway, the French toast in the photo was soft and sweet, a perfect thing to have while taking a break and shaking off the tiredness from the walk.

Coffee

The cup and the coffee are both pretty. With so many distinctive cafes like this in Hongdae, no wonder it is packed with people on weekends.

Yeo Jin-goo, spotted by chance at Sangsang Madang

A photo I happened to take while walking by; I had nowhere else to post it, so I am squeezing it in here. The screaming girls scared me a little, but the way he left with a smile was memorable.
