Oahu is famous for dolphin watching. It is an activity where you jump into the sea and see the dolphins up close, and it turned out to be better than I expected. Since the dolphins come in near the shore early in the morning, we set off at 6 a.m. from the Aloha Plaza at the Sheraton hotel. After about an hour on the freeway we reached the West Shore, where the boat was moored at the harbor. Even leaving at 6, the traffic on the way was heavy, and I think it would have been a real hassle in a rental car.

It reminded me of scenes from Lost. They say the show was shot in Hawaii, and it was right here on the West Shore.

The West Shore is almost completely undeveloped. Nature is left as it is. Oahu has more to see than I thought.

We went a long way looking for dolphins.

We headed straight north along the West Shore. It takes a while to reach where the dolphins are. They say you sometimes see whales in winter too, but not on this day.

You can hardly get views like this from a car, so going out on the water was a good call. Though I did struggle, since I cannot swim.

The sheer scale of nature here is beautiful. I think I would have been happy even going back without seeing a dolphin, but..

We finally reached the spot where the dolphins are.
