Yorozuya, a Western-Style Izakaya in Asakusa

Near Asakusa, at Azumabashi, there is an izakaya called Yorozuya that serves an eclectic menu built on Western-style food. “Yorozu” means “everything,” so the name means a shop that has it all. True to the name, the menu covered every corner of both Western and Japanese cooking. I had wanted to visit for ages, and finally made it.

First, a glass of dark beer

yorozuya

It was more ordinary than I expected..

Tomato and mozzarella cheese

yorozuya

A pretty standard dish.

Wagyu tataki

yorozuya

This seems to be the house specialty, and its savory flavor goes perfectly with drinks. I think it would have been even better sliced a bit thicker.

Cucumber with miso

yorozuya

In Korea this would be the kind of thing you get as a freebie, but here it is a proper menu item.

Gratin

yorozuya

Since Western food is their specialty, they do gratin and omurice really well. It was so good I scraped the dish clean.

Soft-set omurice

yorozuya

An authentic omurice made with chicken rice. Really delicious. The only problem was that the portion was too big, maybe because I had ordered the gratin too, but as a single dish it was excellent. Who would have thought an izakaya could turn out such a good omurice..

Tokyo Skytree in its Christmas colors

yorozuya

That time of year has come around already.
