Sembikiya is famous as a luxury fruit shop, but the main store in Nihonbashi also runs a yoshoku (Western-style) restaurant. It is not exactly a cheap place, yet it is always packed. I had been craving both yoshoku and a good dessert for a while, and this place covers both in one go, so I made time on a weekend and went.

Avocado fruit sandwich

A work of art just to look at. You could feel the freshness of the fruit, cut and served right away. The avocado was a bit bland, but the fruit sandwich on its own was plenty delicious.

Crab cream croquettes

This was the dish of the day, and the crab flavor really comes through, rich and full. It was good enough that there was hardly any difference from the crab cream croquettes at Grill Sakura or Kurofunetei, so I think it is fair to call this a first-rate yoshoku restaurant.

A passion fruit jelly, and it was pretty good.

Peach parfait

It costs a whopping 2,100 yen, but it is really, really good. Not just the peach, the cream and jam inside were incredibly tasty too. Worth far more than the steep price.

Tropical fruit punch

An assortment of tropical fruit with red wine.. but it was a little underwhelming. When I asked, they said the mango had already sold out back in July. A bit disappointing, but I had no complaints at all about the fruit itself.

I was honestly surprised at how good both the food and the desserts were, far better than I expected. I hear some people say it is much better than Shiseido Parlour.. but I would have to go to Shiseido Parlour myself to compare. I should go sometime soon… though I have a feeling it will be very hard to beat this.
