I am still posting about May.. but since the weather is starting to heat up, I went all the way out to Nakameguro for some chilled sudachi soba. There is a place in Ginza that serves it too, but this one appealed to me more. Because it is Nakameguro, I suppose.
The entrance
It is half underground, but the atmosphere is cozy. The seating is quite spacious, and it was packed with people.
The counter
I ate at the counter, but there was also something like a garden further inside. The atmosphere is very different from the soba places I have been going to so far.
Dashimaki
You cannot come to a soba restaurant and skip the dashimaki.. it was pretty good.
The plate
They use custom-made tableware.
Sudachi soba
It looks spectacular, but I was told that leaving the sudachi in too long makes it bitter, so I took them all out right away. It has a refreshing taste, and it is definitely a soba that suits the hot summer. It is a little like Korean naengmyeon with vinegar ^_^ but with a cleaner, more refreshing flavor. Well worth coming all this way.
The noodles
I did not expect much, but the soba is quite well made too. No wonder it is popular.
Shiso soba
The shiso makes it refreshing, but it falls a bit behind the sudachi soba.
Sobayu
Overall the food is clean and so is the interior, so the proportion of young female customers was huge. I never knew that slim, model-like girls ate soba too. (At the soba places I had been to so far, I only ever saw middle-aged men..)
After a good meal I took a stroll through the quiet streets of Nakameguro. I also bought a nicely designed bicycle lock. Asakusa is great in every way, but it is a bit of a shame that there are hardly any stylish places like this there.
