Spice Cafe in Oshiage is a place with a Tabelog score in the 4.0s that serves a curry course meal. It is so popular that you cannot get in without a reservation. For that score the prices are on the cheap side, so I was curious what kind of place it would be..
A glass of wine
I just ordered a reasonable wine, and it tasted ordinary.
Homemade walnut bread
Apparently everything is made in-house, and this was pretty good.
Appetizers
Good variety and decent flavours, but nothing that really goes beyond what a cafe can do.
Homemade sausage
Seems like a nice snack to go with drinks. It is a bit removed from the main event, the curry, though.
Condiments
They brought these out for the biryani.
Biryani
They said it is an Indian-style pot rice. Apparently not many places in Tokyo serve it. For how rare it is, the taste was ordinary.
Shrimp curry
There are actually plump shrimp in there, but you cannot see them in the photo. The curry itself is Indian-style, but the shrimp did not particularly suit it.
Coconut curry
Slightly sweet, and nice.
Dessert
Honey gelato and mango mousse. Both were decent, but the honey gelato had a distinctive taste.
Panna cotta and strawberry tart
The panna cotta was delicious, but the strawberry tart was just so-so. Nice that even on the cheap course you get to pick two desserts each.

For the price it is satisfying, but the food never rose above cafe fare. I cannot see how a place like this gets a 4.0 on Tabelog. Once again I was reminded not to get my hopes up about a restaurant based on the score alone.
