Aburasoba Tsubaki, Ueno

Aburasoba Tsubaki is an aburasoba specialist in Ueno. It is a spin-off of Chuka Soba Tsubaki, the well-known ramen shop.

The front entrance

It was late, but the place was packed, and with just one person working the orders were backing up a bit.

Aburasoba

You just mix it all up and eat. Maybe because the sauce underneath is so rich, it tasted a lot like tsukemen. Closer to ramen than your typical aburasoba, I would say.

Rayu and vinegar

Add rayu and vinegar to taste.

Soup

Since there is no broth like with ramen or tsukemen, it comes on the side.

Tsukemen

I tried the tsukemen too, and while it is certainly a decent tsukemen, the aburasoba was a bit tastier. For a place in Ueno that stays open late into the night, the level is high. It seems it is no longer hard to find good ramen anywhere in Tokyo these days.
