Sobadokoro Tsutsumi, Akihabara

I heard there was a machine-made juwari (100% buckwheat) soba shop in Akihabara, so I went one weekend.

The front entrance

tsutsumi

It is tucked away in a bit of a corner. If you are going out of your way, it is a fair walk from the centre of Akihabara.

The table

tsutsumi

An ordinary soba shop atmosphere. Even though it was the weekend, middle-aged guys in salaryman suits kept dropping in now and then.

Kakiage

tsutsumi

Eating just soba felt a bit bare, so I ordered one. Probably because it was fried in advance, it was only so-so. Still, for the price, not bad at all..

Winter-only Echizen soba

tsutsumi

The soba has a nice aroma, but it is the slippery yet springy texture that is really something. A different kind of taste from hand-cut soba, where the noodles come in all thicknesses.

Close-up of the soba

tsutsumi

If I had an office nearby, this is the kind of place I would go to for lunch all the time. It is a decent soba shop, but the location is awkward, so I am not sure I will have a reason to go back.
