This Valentine’s Day I heard that Takashimaya was selling a limited-edition chocolate made with Mori Izo, the shochu they call the “phantom shochu”, so I used my weekend to head over to Shinjuku.

It was about 30 minutes after the department store opened, and they handed me number 275. It was limited to 400, so if I had been a little later I would have missed out.

Very, very luxurious.
I took one out.
When you open the lid.. or whatever you call it, the inside is filled to the brim with shochu. It is a shochu with a fruity aroma to begin with, but wrapped in chocolate the aroma comes through even stronger. Shochu drunk this way is really delicious too, I thought. I guess this is what chocolate for grown-ups looks like..
