I had a lunch get-together, so we went to Tofuya Ukai. The tofu is delicious, and the Japanese garden is gorgeous too.
The garden
This was back in autumn. The weather was just perfect.
The table setting
One server was assigned exclusively to our table. Thanks to that, the meal flowed really smoothly.
The menu
I figured I would forget it, so I took a photo in advance.
Mochi kabocha and uzura tsumire
Rice cake with pumpkin kneaded in, and a quail meatball. The texture of the mochi was fun.
Green onions to top the age dengaku
Age dengaku
Fried tofu brushed with sauce and grilled. Pile on plenty of green onions and it is delicious. It seems to be on the course here all year round, whatever the season.
Maguro
A single slice of sashimi. The freshness is fine.
Kani hiryozu
Crab meat wrapped in tofu and deep-fried. Being a tofu restaurant, tofu dishes keep coming, and they are really good.
Ebi okaki-age
Shrimp coated in crushed rice crackers and deep-fried, served with pickles. The unusual texture of the fried crackers was fun.
Close-up
It really sets an autumn mood.
Tosui tofu
This is the house specialty. The seasoning is light, and you get the clean, delicate taste of the tofu just as it is. It was so good that I recommended it to a friend, and since that friend loved it too, it clearly really is delicious.
Rice
The rice is good too. A satisfying meal.
The dessert bowl
A simple dessert comes at the end, and the bowl is lovely.
Oshiruko
Just as the dishes are not heavily seasoned, the oshiruko is not that sweet either. There is a bit too much sesame in it, but it makes a fitting end to the course.
The Japanese garden, shot on the way out
The Japanese garden, shot on the way out
Beautiful whenever I see it.
The Japanese garden, shot on the way out
Next time I would like to visit in a different season and enjoy a different side of the garden and the food.
