After arriving in Hamamatsu, Shizuoka, I dropped into a Russian restaurant for lunch. It seems to be a pretty old establishment in this neighbourhood.
Borscht soup
It was closer to a stew than a soup. Plenty of Western-style restaurants serve borscht too, but having it Russian-style like this is nice as well.
Salad
It comes out simple. I did not take a photo, but the atmosphere of this place is wonderfully old-fashioned, and I liked it. It would make a pretty good weekend lunch spot.
Bread
This was, well, ordinary..
Pirozhki
A croquette-like bread filled with meat, sausage and so on. It may be Russian food, but it has something in common with Japanese food too. Piping hot and tasty.
Siberian-style boiled dumplings
These also felt somehow Chinese.. anyway, they were good. Apart from the borscht, nothing really felt particularly Russian.
Fried rice
Aside from the raisins in it, it was ordinary fried rice.
Sherbet for dessert
Russian tea
Unusually, they put jam in it.
Coffee
This was just regular coffee.
It is a bit unusual, but it never went beyond the range of Western-style food. The atmosphere carries the place, so it would be fine for a weekend brunch. For me, though, I doubt I will be going back.
