After a good lunch, I headed to the next place for dessert. The back streets of Asakusa are full of famous old shops, and one of them is a well-regarded anmitsu specialist, so I gave it a try.
The entrance
Just one look and you can tell it has presence. It is not a big place, but it was pretty packed, and customers waiting for takeout kept coming in as well.
Mitsumame
It is a simple thing, just red peas on agar jelly with syrup poured over, but it is really delicious. Compared to your average anmitsu shop, the beans are in superb condition.
Cream anmitsu
Topped with ice cream and all sorts of things. This one was good too. Which one you order probably comes down to taste. For the record, I liked the mitsumame better.
The menu
A handful of basic ingredients spun into a surprisingly long list of menu items, a bit like the coffee at Starbucks.
A cup of green tea
After something sweet you need something to cleanse the palate. With dessert taken care of, I went for a stroll around Asakusa. The longer I live here, the more I feel what a great neighbourhood it is.
