When I searched for the most famous lunch spot in Hamamatsucho, this place came up. It is so well known that I got curious and went to try it.
The front entrance
It is tucked away in a corner, so it was not easy to find. The place is not very big, so if you arrive even a little late you end up waiting in line.
The tai-meshi teishoku
It is 1,200 yen including sashimi, arani (simmered fish) and karaage. A nice lineup.
Overhead shot
This is how the whole set comes out on one tray.
Sashimi
The freshness is no joke. At this level I have no complaints at all about the 1,200 yen price.
The arani (soy-simmered fish)
It is fish simmered in soy sauce, with several different kinds of fish in it. As I was eating I found some fried fish in there too, and that was a real treat. It just melts in your mouth.
Tai-meshi
Rice cooked with sea bream, topped with a big chunk of the fish. Getting all this for 1,200 yen is not expensive at all.
I hear it is good value in the evening too, so if I have the time it would be nice to go for a drink at night. Hamamatsucho has quite a few good places once you start looking.
