A friend put in a request for good soba that day, so the plan was to try Kyorakutei in Kagurazaka, but.. oh no, they had already closed early for the long weekend. So I just searched for places nearby and up came Iseto, a place with ratings that seemed almost too good to be true, so in we went.
Otoshi
The atmosphere is that of a very upscale izakaya, but the food that came out was ordinary.
Otoshi 2
Hmm.. but the real kicker is that the menu has no prices. There are hardly any kinds of sake either. Why on earth is this place rated so highly? Anyway, we ordered some food.
Tofu
Just tofu…
Shirasu
It comes out as a single dried sheet..
Miso soup
The miso soup was nicely made, though
Sake flask
The sake was not bad.
Dried filefish
The menu listed filefish, so I ordered it, and out came dried filefish jerky, which is rare in Japan. What the..
When the bill came, it was quite a lot for what we ate.. I admit the place has atmosphere, but I could not understand how a place like this gets such high scores. If this is just the Kagurazaka vibe then so be it, but either way, it was my first big failure in picking a restaurant in a long while.
