Dumoak Gallery and Cafe Oreum Jeju on Jeju Island

Since I was on Jeju Island, I built the plan around the places I had always wanted to see, and Dumoak Gallery was one I simply could not leave out. After a late lunch at Seongsan Ilchulbong, we drove straight over to Dumoak.

The main entrance

Apparently it used to be a school that closed down. There is a garden out front and a small cafe building round the back. Far more people had come than I expected, which caught me by surprise.

The show was made up of photos of the same place taken over many different days. Sadly, the one photo that had moved me was not on display that day. It seems you need a bit of luck to catch the shot you want.

The back garden

It is beautifully laid out.

Stone ornaments in the back garden

Travelling everywhere by rental car, I had not realised it, but Kimyounggap Gallery had a surprising number of women visiting in groups.

The front garden

It is not a large space, but it has been arranged with a lot of charm.

A sculpture

It reminded me of Princess Mononoke..

It is kept relatively well. Look closely at the photo and you can see chestnut blossoms in bloom.

I thought about buying a photo book, but nothing really grabbed me. If there had been a large-format book that opens flat across the middle I would have bought it even at a high price, but that was the one concept they did not have.. So I moved on with just the postcard they hand you instead of an admission ticket.

Cafe Oreum Jeju

There was a cafe right in front of Dumoak Gallery, and it looked so intriguing that I went in. The interior is clean and full of little touches.

The menu board

The black pork cutlet, fried thick in the Japanese style, was tempting, but we had to leave for dinner soon so I could not try it.

Tangerine tea and a cafe latte

Unlike Mint, this place apparently serves proper coffee. The tangerine tea was sweet like yuja tea and seemed like it would be good for a cold. After a short rest at the cafe we set off straight for Seogwipo for dinner.
