The First Spring Barbecue of 2012 at Nanji Campground

With summer just around the corner, it feels a little awkward to be posting about a spring barbecue ^_^ Anyway, the spring barbecue season came around again this year without fail, so a few of the members got together for a barbecue.

Dry-aged beef

I was told the meat came from a place in Buyeo called Seodong Hanwoo. Maybe because it was dry-aged, it wasn’t dripping with juice, but you could taste the savory depth that comes with aging.

Pork from Jeju

One of the joys of a barbecue is getting to taste all sorts of meat~

Donated liquor

So much liquor was donated that day that drinking it all was hard work. On a day when you start on single malt in the afternoon, you’re out of it until the next day..

The drinks on hand

There was Suntory, and white wine too. The naengi (shepherd’s purse) liquor that Nok-x brought was lovely as well.

Jjukkumi (webfoot octopus)

Someone had gone and bought in-season jjukkumi. I just feel bad that I couldn’t help with prepping the ingredients..

Scallops

They were even marinated. These people really do prepare thoroughly.

Salad bar

Plenty of salad as well. At an ordinary barbecue you pretty much just throw barely-trimmed meat and whole vegetables on the grill and that’s that, but a gourmet barbecue really is something else.

Starting with the jjukkumi

I’ve had it in shabu-shabu or simply boiled, but grilled on the barbecue it tastes completely different. Around this point we opened a bottle of white wine bought at Enoteca, but I have no photo of it..

Aged meat

We grilled away and ate our fill.

Switching up the kinds of meat as we went

After dark

We started in the morning, and it didn’t feel like much time had passed at all, but the day was already ending. Good times go by fast.

We ate and drank far more than a thing or two that day, but looking back now I barely took any photos. I just look at other people’s posts and go, ah.. so that’s what that was. I have a lot of posts backed up and I’ve been living in a whirl, so these very thin posts keep coming. There will probably be fifty-something more posts like this, so if you can’t be bothered to read them, feel free to just skip them.
