Around Valentine’s I tried Läderach chocolates and liked them so much that, while I was over at Duomo, I stopped by Läderach’s shop-cum-café in the Seoul Finance Center. It turns out there’s a Gyeonghuigung branch even closer to Duomo, but I had no idea at the time. I went there after stuffing myself at Duomo, right through the dessert they threw in on the house, so I thought my stomach was going to burst. I really should curb my appetite if I want to live long.

Chocolate pecan pie
The chocolate is astonishingly good, yet the cake tasted disappointing. Just dumping in loads of chocolate doesn’t make a cake. In the end I realized that the only thing carrying the Läderach name is the chocolate — desserts like the cakes have nothing to do with Läderach. That’s why it’s called the Swiss Chocolate Café and not the Läderach Café..

I should have ordered just one cake. I ate it with tears in my eyes. In the end, before the damage got any worse, I went next door to Palazzo and polished off a scoop of Riso Nero. The Gwanghwamun Finance Center also has Hôtel Douce in it, so the next time I need dessert around there, that’s where I’ll go.
