A junior colleague I’m fond of called an impromptu meetup, so off we went to Inoshishi, the izakaya everyone raves about. They built the course to fit a 50,000-won budget, and for the price the content was pretty decent.
Otoshi
This one was so-so..
The donated booze
Tonight the mood was to go at MAX speed, but we also had a bottle someone had chipped in. A good gift bottle is best drunk before you get drunk. The Caol Ila 8-year was an unpeated style, and at 59.8% it was seriously powerful. A single malt right up my alley.
Salad
The crab meat is tasty.
Raw oysters on the half shell
We started with oysters..
First sashimi plate
The octopus was especially good. I like that everything comes two pieces per person, so you get enough of it to taste.
Konowata
The dish was way too small.. From my limited foodie knowledge I’d heard it’s good eaten with flounder dipped in it, but sadly there was no flounder, so I couldn’t test that.
Second sashimi plate
The freshness is good. The flavour, so-so.. I haven’t been to many Japanese restaurants in Korea so I can’t really judge, but this struck me as a good one.
Grilled shrimp heads
They were on the small side, so I think fried would have been better.
Ankimo
Going by other bloggers’ posts this seems to be a much-praised dish, but the portion was so small I couldn’t tell how good it was.
Gukhwaju, chrysanthemum wine
Another bottle that was chipped in, pleasantly sweet. It tasted good.
Oysters and sea squirt
Oysters showing up twice — maybe they just had oysters to spare?
Fried oysters
Well.. so-so..
Chiri, clear fish soup
From here on my memory gets hazy..
Bar snack
I did eat this one too, but I can’t really remember..
Planet chocolates
These are the chocolates I brought along. They’re sold at a certain shop in Osaka, and they really are pretty. They taste good too, so I’ll have to bring another box back next time.
Ochazuke
This one’s hazy too..
It was a gathering with plenty of good eating and drinking. Thanks to the junior who set it up. And of course, that night too we ended up at Factory for a few more before heading home..
