Chocolatier Inamura Shozo in Nippori

I do like chocolate, but I had never paid much attention to Japan’s chocolate specialists – until a visit to Patissier Inamura Shozo the other day changed my mind. Turns out Japan has places that do it well ^_^ So I dropped by its sister shop, Chocolatier Inamura Shozo. It sits at the back of a small side street, but the interior is thoroughly modern. It had only just opened for the day, and yet there were already plenty of older ladies inside.

The exterior

It doesn’t feel like Nippori at all, and maybe that is exactly why it is so popular. In Jiyugaoka a place like this wouldn’t even stand out.

Chocolat chaud

A very, very thick chocolate drink. This is exactly how I think an ideal chocolat chaud should taste.

There were several kinds of cake, but circumstances meant I could only have one. So I went for the signature item, and despite how it looks it tasted surprisingly light.

Cross-section

I had expected it to be rich, so it caught me off guard. Even after finishing a whole one I didn’t feel weighed down at all.

A really lovely shop. If I had had more time and more room in my stomach I would have liked to try the other items, but I had a lunch appointment in Akihabara right after, so I held back. (Yes, I’m that kind of guy..)
