I had something to take care of in Samcheong-dong, so I booked a restaurant nearby. A Table is a very well-known place. These days I tend to go only to places that have already proven themselves. Seeking out new openings is fun too, but there are more than a couple of established favourites still to get through.
The menu board
They showed us the menu of the day. One of the nice things about restaurants in Korea is that they give you time to take a photo. Good instincts.
The basic setting
Rustic French, I suppose you’d call it. They had a very cheap yet tasty Burgundy, so I ordered a bottle. Satisfying on the price front as well.
Chocolate creme brulee
A distinctive flavour.
Bread
I was hungry, so I ate plenty of it.
Beet millefeuille
A fun dish, as expected.
Exploded view
Terrine
I can’t quite remember whether terrine is the right word..
Carrot soup
It was good. There’s no photo of the main course – I must not have taken one, sadly.
Petits fours
Nothing special.
Tea
This one too, well..
It’s good-value French, and a place where you can feel the cosy charm that’s particular to Samcheong-dong. I just went to eat with friends, but it would make a fine date course. I couldn’t be bothered to lug the SLR around so I just shot with my iPhone, and it’s a shame the photos came out poor. What stuck with me was getting to drink a cheap but good Burgundy for the first time in ages. If I go again, I’d like to try this place’s sister restaurant, or else the hamburg steak specialist they’re about to open. I’d love to fall for Samcheong-dong’s charm all over again.
