Sadong Myeonok looks like a place with some history behind it, but it wasn’t where I originally meant to go. I’d come out downtown that day to stop by the Shilla Duty Free, and the place I planned to eat at was closed -_- so after wandering around a bit I searched on the Blue Ribbon app and found this one. I was especially craving naengmyeon that day, and unexpectedly I managed to find a pretty good spot right in the middle of Insadong. The places listed in the Blue Ribbon app are mostly consistent in taste, so you can trust them. Download it once and you’re covered wherever you go in the country. The entrance
It’s near the main crossroads in the heart of Insadong. It’s tucked away in a bit of a corner, so if you go without knowing, you might end up wandering around. By the way, there was a long list of other recommended places in Insadong besides this one. I only came here because I was craving naengmyeon.
Side dishes..
Pretty ordinary, like at any regular naengmyeon place.
Mul-naengmyeon
The broth is clean and refreshing, really high quality. The noodles are chewy without overdoing it, just right. It was good enough that I wondered whether it might be number one among Hamheung naengmyeon places of this style. It’s a notch above Sinsa Myeonok, where I went before.
Hoe naengmyeon
It seemed a little behind the mul-naengmyeon, but it was still really well made and tasty.
Mandu
Just as I expected, out came big wang-mandu packed with filling. I enjoyed them a lot. It made for a perfect meal. That said, Insadong is a neighborhood that’s strong on Korean food to begin with, so I do wonder whether I’d ever make a special trip here just for naengmyeon. Anyway, it was a happy day of eating well and shopping well. I think I’ll be thinking of this place again when summer comes.
