The season has finally come to post the storm of entries I’ve let pile up. It’d be nice to post things ahead of time, or at least regularly, but that was never going to happen -_-
Anyway, the weekend before last there was a small festival where I live, so I went along. It’s nothing huge, just a local food festival put on to promote tourism (the 8th Matsue Dandan Food Festa). If you ask whether there was lots of tasty stuff, well… around here this level is pretty standard.
Wild boar soup
It’s 200 yen a bowl. It looks ordinary, but one sip and I was stunned. It tasted like a denial of every piece of pork I’d ever eaten. Kagoshima black pork doesn’t even come close. Even top-grade beef rarely has fat this clean and light. Boar season apparently runs from December to March, so I need to hurry and have more before it’s over.

Compared to Korea -_- they’re a bit pricey, but delicious. Oysters are in season in winter too, so you’ve got to have them.

It didn’t look like much, but it was so ridiculously good it surprised me.
So I bought a pack to take home…
It was 1,000 yen for 250 grams. I thawed it right away and put it in kimchi jjigae. The flavor was just beautiful… I’ve made a firm vow that from now on, every winter I’ll be sure to eat sushi, crab, and wild boar.

They’re a bit expensive, but maybe it was the festival mood, because people were lining up to buy them. There was plenty of other standard festival food too, but I was really busy that day as well, so I called it at that and headed home. I wanted some freshly baked apple pie, but I held back. I’ll be heading to Korea soon and going way over on calories, so there’s no need to start putting on weight early.
