After finishing round two, we ended up at Namdo Pocha, which is a good long way from Seoul National University Station -_- The original plan was Seongmin Yangkkochi, but it had closed early. (Early meaning around 1 a.m., mind you..) So Namdo Pocha is where we landed. Even though I went to a university near this neighbourhood, I almost never had any reason to go to Bongcheon Market. We usually drank at places over by Nakseongdae or Nokdu. So I’m only now finding out that a place like this exists..
Gimbap
This was takeout from another place. Everyone that night had this area as their home turf, so they were all very much at ease. I was the only one fumbling around.. Way back when, I had that kind of comfy -_- place too, in Nokdu, called Oseong Galbi.. It brought back a lot of memories.
Side dishes
These were just so-so
Oysters
It’s winter, so you can’t skip oysters. Once the food arrived, we got down to mixing somaek. Maybe because I’ve been cutting back on drinking lately, a few glasses had me feeling dizzy.
Crab
You get a lot for the price. Probably because it’s by a university.. Everyone was a good drinker too.. and the atmosphere was great.
Crab sujebi
This one really stuck with me. It brought out the taste of the fresh ingredients really well. Japanese dishes so often come out with such a tiny bit of ingredients that it makes me annoyed, so eating tough, hearty Korean food like this kept me warm and full even on a cold winter night.
Spicy yellow croaker stew (jogi maeuntang)
I think it was tasty, but thanks to the somaek, which I hadn’t had in a while, I have no memory of anything after this. Sob.. When I woke up in the morning I was sound asleep at home, and I hadn’t lost or broken anything. Hopefully nothing major happened.. Messing up on the very first day of the year, again.. What’s the point of getting older, really.. Anyway, I have a feeling a lot of fun things are going to happen this year too. Happy New Year, everyone..
