I went out to Harajuku, but there wasn’t really anywhere that jumped out at me. There are some set-meal places, and Italian and French too, but for two guys that’s just an extravagance.
At times like that, ramen is the easy option. I spotted the sign for Koumen (光麺), which has quite a reputation for a chain, so in we went.
The tsukemen noodles
This place uses aged noodles. They were good in the regular ramen too, but they go really well with tsukemen as well.
For about 350 yen, I think, you can get every topping they have.
I dedicate this photo to Ms. K. Wipe off the drool before you look..
You dip them into a broth like this.
It’s the seafood-tonkotsu style. It was sensational at first, but by now it’s a familiar taste. It pairs well with the aged noodles.
When you’re done, you pour stock into the dipping soup and drink it to finish.
Eating it like this is what makes you feel you’ve properly had tsukemen ^_^
Maybe because it had been a while, it was a satisfying meal. Eating seafood-tonkotsu tsukemen brought a certain shop to mind. I hear a branch of that place is opening in the basement of Tokyo Station, so next time I’d like to go there..
