Yakiniku, soba, ramen and sushi are everyday foods you can find anywhere in Japan. (Sushi counting conveyor-belt places, that is…) With so many of them there are plenty of great places, and plenty of not-so-great ones. There are several yakiniku places in my area too, and I got to try one that’s supposed to be pretty good.
Premium kalbi
This was around 5,000 yen? The marbling is a work of art and it really is delicious, but honestly, I know a ranch-run yakiniku place with this level of quality at half the price… It’s cheap compared to Kobe beef, but… sigh. It just didn’t feel right to me.
Gyutan
Beef tongue. Clean-tasting and wonderfully chewy… Squeeze a little lemon on it after grilling and it’s delicious.
Liver
It’s fresh, but it had thawed a little.
Yukhoe
Overall this place was just too expensive for me to be satisfied. Think of it as “so there’s a place like this too”…
