After stopping by Kotoin and soaking up the autumn atmosphere, I headed straight to Izusen, a shojin ryori (Buddhist vegetarian) restaurant inside Daitokuji, for a meal. It’s not some storied old establishment, but when you come to Kyoto and want to eat Kyoto-style food, you won’t find many places better than this.
The way in
It’s inside the temple grounds. You have to follow narrow paths like a maze before it finally shows up.
Paths like this keep going.
The sign
This is the atmosphere.
There are quite a lot of seats. Enough that they could take a large group without any trouble.
Tables in the garden
The atmosphere was so nice that we decided to eat outside, even though it was a bit chilly.
There are even Jizo statues like these set up.
Food photos in Part 2..
