The Izu Peninsula is surrounded by sea on three sides and isn’t far from Tokyo, so it has plenty of beaches. While I was wondering which one to go to, the landlady at our hot-spring inn recommended Shirahama Beach, supposedly the most popular one around here, so that’s where we went. Even without a car it’s easy to get to, since the bus and train connections are good. That said, if there are three or four of you, driving is a lot more convenient.
The view of the beach
I never imagined Japan had a white sand beach this clean. The beaches I’d been to so far while living in Japan were nothing by comparison. Maybe because it’s the holiday season, the place is packed with people.
I don’t think the photos after this need much explanation. By the way, I didn’t bring my camera down onto the beach, so the only photos I took myself are the scenery shots.
It’s a place I’d love to go back to. There’s still a bit of summer left, so I should start making plans ^_^
