Ladurée, the historic Paris pâtisserie famous for its macarons, opened a branch in Tokyo on July 26. After their events in January and February turned out to be a big hit, it looks like they rode that momentum and opened a shop. Something new in town? ^_^ Can’t not go. So off I went straight to Mitsukoshi in Ginza.
Ladurée is on the 2nd floor of Mitsukoshi. Apparently there was a massive line on opening day, but it wasn’t that bad when I went. After waiting about 10 minutes I got into the café.
At my table
I ordered a Perrier, and it was 800 yen. The atmosphere and service are very luxurious. If it were a bit less crowded, and if you could get a window seat, I’d say the price isn’t bad. (Though the Gucci café does coffee for 600 yen, so I’d probably go there instead.)
Dessert knife and fork
You don’t need them for macarons, but they have quite a few cakes on the menu too. Every single one is expensive, though. Sigh. So I just order two macarons.
Orange and marron macarons
Rose and marron are supposedly the popular ones, but the rose was sold out. So I ordered the orange, and it was way too sweet… Hmm… well… anyway, 280 yen apiece is just way, way too expensive. They say it’s world-class, but it’s still just one tiny sweet, so should it really cost this much… Probably only worth it as a gift. I did like the café’s atmosphere, so next time I come I’ll try something else on the menu.
