Hidemi Sugino is a cake shop in Ginza (technically Kyobashi, if you go by the official address). It’s a famous shop from Kobe, the city best known for cakes in all of Japan, that has expanded to Tokyo, so my expectations were sky-high even before it arrived, and it has lived up to them and settled into Tokyo just fine.
The storefront
The sign says Hidemi, but in Japanese the name is read “Idemi Sugino,” not “Hidemi.” There’s a small café inside, and there are quite a few cakes you can only get in the café. I’ll have to try it next time.
I took them home.
The prices are pretty steep. If Toshi Yoroizuka satisfied me on every front, this place falls short on price and portion size.

It got a bit squashed on the way home, but it’s prettier than this. It’s a cake topped with framboise, and they didn’t hold back on the high-end ingredients. I think it was 580 yen. The taste isn’t bad, but it’s just too small. It barely registers…
Mango cake
This one is also made with plenty of good ingredients. It was about 600 yen, and it’s very disappointing in terms of portion and price. For someone like me who cares about quantity ^_^, I don’t think anything beats Toshi Yoroizuka.
