Ryogoku is famous as the home of the Kokugikan, the sumo arena. Lately I’ve been wandering around different parts of Tokyo at night, to learn my way around. There are still a lot of places I don’t know well. A few more weeks of this and I think I’ll have a decent feel for the city.
The sign
I was walking past, it looked clean, so in I went. It’s a pretty big place, and it was packed until late at night.
Prices
Very reasonable.
Condiment pots
330 g of noodles
Just like Yasubee, which I went to before, the 220, 330 and 440 g portions all cost the same. Come to think of it, the bowls are Yasubee-style too. The noodles are only so-so on chewiness, but given the price I have no real complaints.
Spicy, tangy dipping broth
One taste of this and it’s completely Yasubee style. The pleasant sourness that whets your appetite is a perfect match for the tsukemen noodles. There seems to be some kind of connection with Yasubee… Anyway, I got a cheap meal out of it, so no complaints.
Keeping up this routine of eating ramen late at night and wandering around has made me put on a ridiculous amount of weight. I need to put an end to this lifestyle soon. Next month I plan to spend about a month hard at it, hitting every ramen shop in Tokyo worth going to, and then wrap up the ramen-shop tour at a sensible point. Some money from my part-time work has come in, too ^_^ I need to move house and upgrade my computer, but before that I want to go around some good places with friends and people I know. Oh… and once things settle down a bit, I’d like to take on a few more part-time gigs to build up a nest egg… no, make that some pocket money, and travel as much as I can. When will this busyness ever end…
