Last weekend there was a DE DE MOUSE event in Shibuya. He wasn’t even the headliner, just a guest, and the vibe was more band concert than DJ set, so honestly it wasn’t all that much fun. Plus, DE DE MOUSE’s music is the kind that gets a bit tiresome if that’s all you listen to. But he’s been on a break lately and hard to catch, so I took the chance and went.
This is the guy.
At first glance he looks like an otaku straight out of Densha Otoko (Train Man). Sorry about the awful image quality, it’s a phone camera.

His second album comes out on avex on May 7. But the style hasn’t changed much from the first. I can’t shake a faint worry that it’ll go the same way as DAISHI DANCE’s second album. Well… even so, if there’s a DJ event after the album drops, I’m thinking of going. The atmosphere this night wasn’t great, so I didn’t really get to let loose.
Next up, i-dep.
Some guy who looked like a mountain bandit came out, and it turned out to be Hiroshi Nakamura, the leader of i-dep -_-;; Apart from that, it was such a great set I’d almost call them the real headliner of the night. The live vocals from CANA… just amazing. Singing that good, for a second I actually suspected lip-syncing. They did a lot of songs I love, so I was happy: rainbow, jump, choose me and more… They’re apparently putting on a big event in June. FreeTEMPO is on the bill too, so it sounds pretty fun, but whether I’ll make it or not… For a while I’m planning to focus on nighttime club outings rather than daytime concerts.
Finally, the main act of the night: Hitomitoi.
Apparently the concert was to celebrate her new album… I’ve known this singer since her debut, but then as now, she’s just not my type. She can sing and she’s a fun person, but that doesn’t change it. Her voice is a bit too rich and greasy for me, I guess… I like a fresh, clean voice.
i-dep alone made the concert worth the money. Big-band style, and maybe because all those distinctive players meshed so well, it was a real blast. I can’t quite get used to Hiroshi Nakamura’s looks, but other than that I was really satisfied.
I’m thinking of sticking with the phone camera for club shots, but I’m not sure how that’ll go. Maybe I should carry a compact camera with good high-ISO performance… But going that far means more weight to lug around, and it gets in the way of having fun. The best would be for phone cameras to get better, but that’ll probably take five years or more.
Well… I’ll see how things go for a while and decide… Anyway, the fun club life goes on~
