I got into Kanazawa late the night before, found a place to stay, and was out walking around from the morning.
Kanazawa has a simple layout, with the main sights lined up more or less in a straight line. You just keep walking.
It rained all day from the morning, so a lot of my shots were failures. It had been ages since I last shot in the rain…
The first place I went was the Higashi Chaya district. The name means “eastern teahouses”, and it’s a street lined with old-style buildings.
Inside it’s neat and tidy. They’ve done a really nice job with it… worth the trip even from far away.

This is Kenroku-en, counted among Japan’s three great gardens. It’s a Japanese garden, and very well kept. It doesn’t have much small-scale charm,
but it overwhelms you with sheer size. The shame was that a place like this really should be seen in autumn or spring rather than summer.
Summer makes the colours rather flat, and with the rain on top of that, it even had a bit of a noir mood.
