Casa de Seonju, a bakery by the Hongjecheon

There are so many bakeries along the Hongjecheon that it is hard to get to them all, but this is one place I simply could not skip.

Casa de Seonju

Casa de sunjoo.

It is a shop known for doing croissants and viennoiserie really well.

Weekend special: dark cherry chocolat

Casa de sunjoo.

This one was seriously good. Maraschino cherries, almond cream, and chocolate on top of that.. what a perfect harmony.. the flavor felt refined, and I enjoyed every bite.. That kind of refinement is hard to copy even if you try.. which is exactly why it pays to know places like this.

Breads like these

Casa de sunjoo.

There is a good variety of bread.

All sorts of bread

Casa de sunjoo.

I would like to buy these ones some day too.

Anyway.. if you go late there is not much bread left to buy, so I would recommend going early.. Compared to Olkeupaek, which is reservation-only and therefore hard to get into, I think this is a very realistic alternative.. With Olkeupaek you never know when you will actually make it there.. the reservation is one thing, but you also have to stand in a long line, so unless you clear a whole day it is rough.

A Chinese restaurant

Casa de sunjoo.

Xiaochi specialty shops seem to be popping up one by one in Korea too.

Kashiya

Casa de sunjoo.

I went because I heard they sell wagashi.

Oh dear..

Casa de sunjoo.

It turned out not to be the wagashi I know.. I just wanted plain, ordinary wagashi..

A new building in Yeonhui-dong

Casa de sunjoo.

There is a cafe in it, and it seems to have something to do with some photographer or other, but in any case it draws a crowd and looks to have become a local landmark.

A GS25 collaborating with Coca-Cola

Casa de sunjoo.

I just took a photo because it struck me as novel. The advertising power of Coca-Cola really is something..
