Another Go at Saizeriya in Hamamatsu

I’d been to Saizeriya before and enjoyed it, so this time I went back for a revenge visit. By “revenge” I mean eating there with drinks. I usually get around by car, so I can only drink if I come with someone else who’ll do the driving.

Cheese

Makes a nice starter.

Wine

Would you believe this is 100 yen? The one issue: I ordered red wine and it came out chilled. Well, if that’s the restaurant’s policy, so be it, but had I known it comes this way, it would have been better to order it first and let it sit a while. The wine quality is so-so, but for the price it’s excellent.

Onion soup

Goes well with drinks..

Peperoncino

The noodles aren’t great, but oh well..

Grilled chicken alla diavola

It’s 500 yen a plate, yet the chicken is fresh and they really do a great job roasting it in the oven.. It comes with a vegetable sauce, which just has some green onion in it and isn’t spicy at all, so calling it “diavola style” seems a bit of a stretch.

Arrosticini

These are Italian-style lamb skewers. They taste similar to Korean lamb skewers, but maybe because they’re bigger than the Korean ones, overall they were actually tastier than the Korean version. Who would have thought lamb skewers at an Italian restaurant could be this good.. If you’re craving lamb skewers in Japan, just head to Saizeriya.

Oven-baked mussels

To be honest, they use the same sauce as the grilled chicken, so the flavors overlap a bit, but it tasted good.. I suppose they reuse the same ingredients to keep costs down and maintain freshness. Well, as long as I can eat cheaply, it’s no big deal for me as long as I don’t order overlapping dishes…

Tiramisu

The dessert is good too. The oven-baked dishes in particular are, I think, unrivaled in quality.

Interior

Even eating and drinking until you’re stuffed, the bill comes to under 3,000 yen, so the value is outstanding.. And value aside, this is a place I’d want to come back to for the taste alone..
