Funari Gelato in Kawaguchiko, Yamanashi

We’d had our meal, so dessert was next, right? Straight off to the dessert shop.

The building looks like a spaceship. The line was long, too. It’s a place called Hoto Fudo, which is popular and apparently shows up on TV all the time. If you come to Kawaguchiko as a tourist, this is exactly the kind of place you should go… but I’d insisted on going to a soba place instead, so I never got to try it… Tourist favorites aren’t bad either, after all…

Yamanashi is famous for its fruit, and this is a gelato shop specializing in gelato made from Yamanashi fruit.

It looks pretty, but the taste is just so-so. Strangely enough, the banana, which isn’t even a seasonal flavor, was the tasty one. It made me think that fancy fruits like Shine Muscat are just expensive and maybe not really suited to gelato…

Well… since we’d come all the way to Yamanashi, of course I wanted gelato made from Yamanashi’s specialty fruit, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s delicious. Another lesson learned…
