Every once in a while I have a reason to go to Nowon. Since it really is only once in a while, I tend to look around here and there whenever I go.
Around Nowon Station
It’s the weekend, yet it’s quiet. There isn’t much to do around here on weekends, so I moved on to Gongneung.
Hoi Polloi Coffee Roasters
The famous thing in Nowon-gu is the Gyeongchun Line Forest Trail, and after a row of cafes popped up right next to it, now decent places are showing up further inside too.
Roughly the kind of bread they sell..
The menu is the kind of pastries you’d expect a cafe to sell, good as a snack to go with coffee.. The problem with places like this is that they’re so packed it’s hard to eat inside. I confirmed that such a place exists and walked right back out..
Blue Miles
A rather stylish place had opened on the second floor. There used to be something only on the first floor.. Coming back after a long time, you can see how much the area has developed..
Desserts
The quality looks decent..
Inside
The view through the floor-to-ceiling windows was nice.
Today’s order
They do know what they’re doing. That’s why the place fills up, I suppose..
Chet Baker Blend
“Coffee is a fruit,” and so on.. They say it’s a dangerously addictive flavor, but I’m not sure it really is. I guess this is what they call Gen MZ sensibility..
Sandwich Malgeum
This place is supposed to be good too, but it wasn’t open..
Kota Bread
It was a fairly large bakery, but the bread was just so-so. These days you can find bread at this level anywhere..
A bakery
So there’s a bakery like this too..
Inside..
But there are just too many places like this now.. Lately, unless there’s something special, I don’t even bother going.. At least proper sourdough is nice because you can buy it and eat it slowly, but bread that has to be eaten quickly just doesn’t hold my interest anymore..
Anyway, I now know that all sorts of bakeries have opened in Gongneung, Nowon. Next time I should do a bit more searching before I come..
