I’m not sure of the name.. anyway.. there’s no Shanghai noodle place near my lodging, so I tried it once for the experience.

There are so many options. There’s a printed menu, but everything works through Alipay, so you can just browse the menu there and pay.

There are rice dishes too, quite a variety. It looks a bit complicated, but luckily the staff at big malls like this can somehow communicate. In local malls, no matter how polished the place is, the staff don’t even consider speaking English, but here, maybe because there are so many tourists, we managed to communicate using gestures, English and every other means available. If it’s your first time in China, eating at a place like this seems like a good idea.

Fried noodles

Not bad for the price. The noodles have some thickness to them, and they’re wheat noodles rather than the rice noodles you get around here. (I guess the further north you go, the more wheat they use..) A very familiar taste, I’d say.

It’s self-serve, but this was pretty tasty. I got the feeling Shanghai has a slightly more refined style..

It seems to have chicken and shrimp in it, and it’s a little spicy. This was decent too.

Well.. I feel like I’ve seen this style of noodles somewhere before, but come to think of it, nothing really comes to mind.. Korea doesn’t really have fried noodles as such, and in Japan they tend to have a chewier texture. As noodles served as a meal, I think they’re fine. They do feel like a somewhat refined dish, so I should visit Shanghai sometime..

After eating, I wandered around inside.

There was quite a variety of restaurants.

They even sell yakiniku rice bowls..

There’s a lot of Japanese food here. I wonder if it’s established itself as the premium option.

But there are so many places I really want to try, and I don’t have the time or the stomach room to see them all.. I think a trip to China needs to be measured in weeks. Something like two nights and three days is nowhere near enough..
