Coming out the back of KKONE I spotted a street I hadn’t seen before, so I went for a wander.
This kind of place
There’s a big temple and a market here.
The vibe
The temple
A little cafe
People kept coming by to buy drinks.
A noodle place
The vibe
Street scene
It really looks like a place with some history.
Scenery
Scenery
They call this xiaochi, or small eats..
The atmosphere
Modern yet traditional. I guess that’s the charm of China.
Outdoor seating
Xinjiang Brothers Lamb Restaurant
I feel like lamb skewers only taste right when the cooks are from Xinjiang.
A restaurant
So colorful. This sort of thing feels exotic too.
Back alley
The atmosphere is straight out of a Hong Kong movie, sort of..
The street
It’s a bit of a worn-down neighborhood, but it has character.
The street
The restaurants stay open well into the night. And there were so many shops selling watermelon. Order one and they slice it up and pack it for you. Korea needs this kind of service too.
Back alley
Hair salon
Grilled squid
A Hubei xiaochi shop
Places like this all look like they know what they’re doing.
Fruit shop
There were so many fruit shops.
Alley
People were gathered here, though I have no idea why.
Congee shop
The park
The park
Apartment blocks seen from the park
There must be an insane number of people living here..
KKONE
Seen from the side.
Bakery
Chinese bread definitely still isn’t up to the level of Korea or Japan.
Lao Shanghai
Looks like a restaurant from Shanghai.
The sign says gang shi niu za, Hong Kong-style beef offal.
Seems they do Hong Kong-style beef offal dishes.
Close-up
Looking closer, they sell something like oden, and for some reason it really called to me. But I was out of time, so I had to pass..
A Lanzhou beef noodle shop
Wanted to try this one too..
A restaurant
This place looked impressive, so I snapped a photo.
Whisky bar
I guess it’s a well-off neighborhood, since there are places like this.. Looking closely at the photo, there’s even an empty Yamazaki bottle..
A lizard
Spotted it while walking down the street. Part Southeast Asia, part modern.. it’s a fun neighborhood.
