395 Bakery in Hapjeong

I heard there was a bakery in Hapjeong that makes proper rye bread, so I went to check it out.

A short-legged human got caught in the reflection..

Breads like these

You could say there aren’t that many kinds of bread, but each one feels substantial..

The breads

If you look closely, the ratio of rye to whole wheat is written on each tag. And the wheat is 100% Korean-grown, apparently.

The breads

There it is, the 100% rye loaf I’d been looking for. It feels a bit like the one from Hinoly, though it’s smaller.

The breads

Lots of German breads here.

The stairway up to the floor above

I didn’t go up.

The kitchen

There seemed to be plenty of interesting things on the menu, but rye bread was my main objective that day, so I skipped them.

The whole place

There were people in for the cafe side too.

So I bought the rye bread, and it was a good one: nicely sour, with none of those gummy, dense patches. I’ve never been to Germany, but it tastes like the real German thing to me. There’s a price difference, but considering you don’t have to worry about queueing at this place, I don’t think I need to make the trip to Hinoly anymore. To think a shop selling rye bread of this quality was this close by all along..

The Catcher in the Rye Bread

There’s a place in Hongdae that imports and sells rye bread, so I stopped by, but it had sugar in it? That does make it tasty to eat, but it’s a fair way from the very healthy rye bread I’m after, so I left empty-handed.

The Han River

Just took a shot of it..
