Bakery Youlkyo is a seriously famous bakery. It’s in Songdo, and the usual drill is to go over early, put your name on the waiting list, and head back when the alert goes off. The day I signed up, the wait came to about three hours.
The place
Popular spots have long lines these days, so I went in braced for it. Then again, three hours isn’t that long when there’s plenty to see and do around Songdo.
Going in
It made me think I really should have done an open run and lined up before the doors opened, because a lot of the bread was already gone. Still, there was a fair amount left, so I just picked up what I could.

The size is no joke. And it’s not just big — the fillings are generous and the prices are reasonable. No wonder people wait three hours for this.

Right at the end a fresh batch of sweet potato ciabatta came out, so I bought one. They normally carry a much wider range, but come late and there’s nothing left to buy.

The bread is big and densely packed, which makes it seriously heavy — kilogram territory, really. So it getting squashed on the way home is just unavoidable.

Look inside this one and it’s so packed with olives it could set off trypophobia.

Inside the pizza
Seeing it in person, the filling is honestly astonishing. Stuffed with olives and loaded with cheese on top of that, it looks perfect for a big family to share. I’d love to come back often, the problem being that three-hour wait. My next visit will probably be a year from now.
