Dongtan is having a moment, so I went over for a weekend outing.
Oh my..
They really did build it nicely.
Lake Park
A lake park seems to be standard issue for a new town.
The view
Dongtan turns out to be surprisingly close to Gangnam. There are plenty of buses, too. As long as the traffic holds up it should be fine. And there is the GTX as well.
Terarosa Coffee
A famous cafe already sitting in a prime spot..
Dongtan
The Lake Park side is the newer part of Dongtan, and while it is not quite the old downtown, there is another cluster of apartment blocks over by the park, and everywhere else there are a huge number of apartments too.
React Coffee
A coffee shop for front-end developers, perhaps..
Apartments
There are plenty of apartments still under construction, too.
White Windmill Bakery
This is the place that became famous during the TMON and WeMakePrice settlement collapse for saying it would send out the bread even if it never got paid. It feels like the number one bakery in Dongtan.
Lotte Department Store
With a department store right at the station, it feels like just about everything you need is here. Even Minyoung Fresh Fish Factory from Yeonan Pier has made it out to Dongtan.
Cookie Monster’s Cafe
Even a place like this.. on the whole it feels like the facilities for kids are very well done.

The main street
A view that is very much a new town, I suppose.
A park
A good restaurant
A good restaurant
There is a neighborhood where all the good restaurants are gathered. Anyway, it feels like Dongtan has everything. It looks like a good place to live, and you can get to Gangnam if you want to.. in some ways I even found myself thinking it might be better than Incheon. Next time I should do a bit more research on the restaurants before I come.
