Daewondang, a traditional bakery in Chuncheon

I had no idea before I went, but a bakery called Daewondang is, in a way, about as famous in Chuncheon as Sungsimdang is.

A place like this

It’s a seriously big place.

Chuncheon scenery

A river runs through Chuncheon, so the views are nice and it’s good for exercising too. It seems like a nice place to live.

Inside

Apparently it’s a designated “Hundred-Year Store.” They sold quite a wide range of breads, but to my eye the quality didn’t look all that great.

Salt bread

Hmm..

Guro Mammoth

Apparently it’s a mammoth bread with cocoa in it. The taste was pretty ordinary. On the other hand, the price was really cheap.

Butter cream bread

It was packed with cream and really tasty. This place seems to be good at cream. So this bread is worth going out of your way to try. I hear their gonggalppang (hollow puff bread) is famous here too, but I didn’t know that at the time, so I came away without any. I’ll have to buy some next time I go.
