Since I’d come all the way to Yeongdeungpo Market, I had to stop by its most famous place too.
Yeongdeungpo Market
I did wonder whether the market still does any real business. Still, I saw plenty of older folks around.
Hobakjip
It’s pretty big and clean. Grandpas are the main clientele, but there were a fair number of younger people too.
Side dishes
They bring out pyeonyuk (pressed boiled pork) as well. But it wasn’t even a busy hour and they still sat us down with strangers.. I’m not sure that was really necessary, but I suppose that’s the traditional culture of a Korean gukbap joint..
The broth
The broth is clean-tasting. It earns its reputation as a good spot.
Sundae and head meat from the set meal
The quality is good and the portion is generous. I nearly burst.
Refill
Maybe they felt bad about the shared table, because later on they topped up my broth by this much.. I had absolutely no complaint about the quantity.
Anyway, the food here is decent, but there were just far too many old-timer customers. No matter how much you renovate the place, if that’s your clientele it’s a bit iffy. I’m a middle-aged guy myself, but a lot of people from the generations above me have no manners and no sense of hygiene..
