Japan has a lot of places where the local economy is genuinely humming, and I suspect it comes down to each region having its own big company to anchor it. In Hamamatsu, that would be the likes of Yamaha and Suzuki. Maybe that’s why the department stores here are pretty well put together too.

Gelato & pizza, RE di ROMA
The pizzas are frozen, which is presumably how they get away with selling them alongside gelato. It turned out to be a pretty tasty place.

JIN DIN ROU is a dim sum place along the lines of Din Tai Fung, and honestly it’s just an ordinary one. But it’s great for a family visit: the service is good and nothing on the plate is too rich or too spicy.
