Eunhuine Haejangguk in Gasan

There’s an Eunhuine Haejangguk right in front of my office, and the line is always long. It looked like business was going a bit too well, so I finally gave it a try.

Haejangguk

I liked that you can add as much garlic as you want. The broth is clean and refreshing, and there’s plenty of meat in it. For 10,000 won, this is worth queuing for.

Side dishes

A pretty standard lineup.

Naejangtang (offal soup)

The naejangtang is good too.

The solid bits

At this price, this much leaves me satisfied. It feels like a place for middle-aged guys.

I’d heard there was a dispute over Eunhuine Haejangguk, so I looked it up: the original Eunhuine Haejangguk on Jeju Island and the Eunhuine Haejangguk franchise are run by different people. They started out together and split partway, but that was before the franchise took off, and the contract seems to have been far too unfavourable to the original shop. Still, a contract is a contract, and it also feels a bit off to say there’s no relationship at all when you’re sharing the recipe. The franchise version is tasty too, so someday when I have the time I’d like to go to Jeju and eat the original.
