I got into a taxi after arriving in Kyoto. I had originally been thinking of going to Kiyomizu-dera, but the driver recommended Kinkaku-ji. He said they had recently re-applied the gold leaf. So I changed my destination and off I went to Kinkaku-ji.
In front of the main gate
Kyoto taxis are great fun, though there is the small problem that you need to be able to speak Japanese. Anyway, they served me well again this time.
Kinkaku-ji
The sheen really is different from before.. At this level I think we can give Kinkaku-ji its due.
Kinkaku-ji

Kinkaku-ji from behind
An oil lamp
It is in details like this that you feel the history
Gacha machines
Nothing special, but apparently they sell a limited edition..
The character for “dai” on the mountainside
So this was near Kinkaku-ji. They light it up at night when there is an event.
The menu of a steak restaurant I spotted on the way past
It is called Bifuteki Sukeroku.. I looked it up and it turns out to be a famous place..
Hirano Shrine
Kyoto is the kind of place where a beautifully kept shrine like this just sits by the roadside..
Amazake
A cup at an amazake specialty shop I found along the way..
A cup of hot chocolate
It suddenly started raining and turned cold, so I had a cup before moving on.
